Visual Composition
This piece best demonstrates my ability to utilize the elements and principles of design (form, shape, line, texture, space, balance, unity, contrast, repetition, pattern, and emphasis) to create an aesthetic visual composition.

Project Overview:

Class: Design Fundamentals

Project: Texture Study

This 3 part assigned helped me focus on texture and how I can evoke emotion into our work. I had the constraint of only using one material other than adhesive. This helped me go through the creative process and test those ideas in each study.

Process:

In the initial phase of this project, I conducted experiments with various found objects to examine how they interacted with black paint to create unique textures. This allowed me to explore and experiment with different methods of object manipulation. Subsequently, I translated my findings into a 2D texture study using paint, identifying the most compelling texture to recreate with bristol board. Finally, I expanded upon the 2D study by creating a 3D representation of the texture, utilizing paper tessellations and bristol board cutouts to bring my texture to life.

Materials:

Bristol Board
black acrylic paint
6 found objects
hot glue

Why I chose this project:

This project honed my creativity within the constraints of a single material, a valuable skill in design. I learned to manipulate objects to evoke emotions and think outside the box.
